Klaxons "No Diggity (Blackstreet Cover)"

A booty-gazing modern soul jeep jam doused in slang-heavy rhetoric, Blackstreet’s 1996 Dr. Dre-supported enormity “No Diggity”, represented an intoxicating new take on “for Black folks only” pride. Producer Teddy Riley’s genius weaving of Black music’s past-fifty year evolution (the song bears distinctive signifiers of the blues, R&B, soul and hip hop) gave credence to the fact that this was a song to be celebrated by his people, first and foremost. Ironically, it would go on to become the group’s most popular release amongst mainstream audiences. Stupefyingly, the Klaxons, sci-fi/ fantasy indie rockers out of London, pull off an impressive remake.
Relish in the joy of hearing the English boys put on their best soul voice as they take note of that fine honey across the bar. Appreciate the efforts of their decent study of urban swagger. Recognize their faithful recreation of the original’s beloved musical make-up (that hymnal vocal line; those hypnotic blues guitar licks; that anvil-heavy piano bit). Allow them the right to input their own flavor with that doomsday drone over the bridge. Embrace them for the respect they give to a 90′s R&B classic. Then precede to play this one over and over. That giddy grin plastered all over your face will never wear off.
this is such an awesome remake! thanks for posting!
OK, yes, it’s cute – and points for choosing it.
