Lil’ Wayne featuring Tyga "California Love"

Those waiting for Weezy to give up the talk-box-assisted, half-sung ramblings once and for all might want to bypass this latest curiso offering, in which he relates a May/ December pairing with some Hollywood actress over a cheap beat re-interpretation of the 2Pac/ Dr. Dre West Coast classic.
“You can roll the credits/ Shorty is my fetish/ And you know I like ‘em reddish/ And shorty is reddish,” Wayne gurgle-croons like the male rap equivalent of the similarly barely audible Amy Winehouse. Totally engrossed in every aspect of his Cali cutie (“Her pussy so good wish I could wear it for cologne”), Wayne even goes as far as proposing marriage to her. Alas, we soon learn, their blissful union is short-lived: “We said we would fight this until round thirteen/ But just like Mike Tyson, we were not a sure thing”. Unable to handle the throbbing pain of his bruised heart, he searches out Don King (!?!) to aid in retrieving his ring.
While the overall concept is cool, listening to Wayne endlessly whine like a bullet-riddled T-Pain isn’t, so the track quickly grows grating (guest rapper Tyga‘s thankfully straightforward rap contribution on the tail-end is decent, but it comes far too late to rescue “California Love”; most would have tuned out by the time he appears).
After this and the audience polarizing pop-oddity “Lollipop”, it’s enough to make you really start to wonder if the long-delayed Carter III will actually be the filler-proof set we thought it could only be a few short months ago.
DL: “California Love” (YFH)
“guest rapper Tyga’s thankfully straightforward rap contribution on the tail-end is decent”"
^^ i have to disagree with this. his verse was the worst part of the whole song!
Eh, I wouldn’t call it the worst part of the song. Much like the rest of the song, it was just entirely uneventful.
I think the argument here is that any guest rap (no matter how bad) would have been nice to interrupt Weezy’s long-winded verses. You can smell the syrup on his breath when you listen to this shit.
