La Roux “Quicksand”

la-rouxFlame-haired British newcomer (and future Lily Allen tour opener) La Roux (who could best be physically described as an avant-garde, Star Trek-age Molly Ringwald) has gotten the blogosphere’s keyboards tappin’ like crazy over her new single, “Quicksand”, a stomping, Human League-meets-Prince electro-pop number that hints that modern pop’s obsession with all things 80′s will surely be kept very much alive come new year.

Emoting blurred-voice sorrow over the track’s robo-White-soul frame, Roux wonders out loud, “Am I your possession?/ Am I in demand?”. The target of her queries is a lover she’s grown tired of not being able to read; but while her frustrations to the situation signal her to start marching towards the exit door, with just one touch of his hand her willpower instantly dissolves, leaving her right back in the embittered position she yearned to escape from (“When will I learn?/ All you do is push me back in the dark”).

With fellow dance tarts Little Boots and Lady GaGa also stirring up some major blog love in recent months, it’ll be interesting to see which one we’ll still be craving after as we delve deeper in ’09.

Pick up the single here.
