Melanie Fiona “Give It To Me Right”
Slinking her way through the sludgy, psychedelic soul groove and suggestive sighs of an instantly familiar Zombies’ “Time Of The Season” sample, R&B/ pop newbie (and Kanye West tourmate) Melanie Fiona makes a strong first impression on premiere single, “Give It To Me Right”.
Fiona, owner of some confident chops, is in heat, and she’s quick to point out that if her man isn’t going to fully satisfy her downstairs cravings right this moment, she’ll just as soon snatch up the next available offer (“Either you make the time or just forget me,” she ultimatums). Her Pussycat Doll-like seduction is definitely intimidating, but that doesn’t at all excuse the fact that her target is surely a fool for leaving someone who sounds this sexy in such a heightened state of need in the first place.
Many will cry “BLASPHEMY!!!” at the old school-thieving musicality, but fuggedabout them; this steamy debut hints that a new pop superstar could be in our midst.
Fiona’s debut, The Bridge, is set for a Spring 2009 release.

This girl is dope — im so happy to see all these real artist coming up and making real sh*t. Im so tired of these artists who keep giving up the same unoriginal garbage. Take a vacation (you know you are)…Fallback.
i think we are all thirsty for something new and meaningful…thank you to the Jazmine’s, Amy’s and Melanie’s of the world…
keep on.
Simply recording another group’s song (Zombie’s “Time of the Season”) does NOT an artist make. This is a disgusting remake of a time-honored song. “Blasphemy” is not a strong enough word.
I’ve been a musician for 35 years. It is indeed disgusting that “artists” like this can’t even come up with their own original music, but instead have to rip off true musicians who did the heavy lifting. The sickening thing is that so many sheeple think this is real music. No doubt, Ms. Fiona considers herself an artist. What a joke.
There has always been pop music, but this is completely manufactured bullshit like so much of the crap that fills the airwaves today. In stark contrast to Ms. Fiona and her ilk are the Beatles, to cite one example. Yes, The Beatles were poppy in the beginning, but there is a huge difference between them and the myriad hip-hop and R & B cretins of today (country music is also manufactured garbage but at least the backing bands can play well. As far as modern rock goes, rock bands normally possess real musicians; however, with a few notable exceptions there has been nothing innovative in the rock genre in over a decade).
The Beatles wrote their own music, played their own music and contributed to the musical lexicon in ways that would take many pages to delineate. Also, not only do they have staying power almost a half a century after the fact, but every musician that I’ve known throughout the years, regardless of genre, has the greatest respect for them. No musician that I know has any regard for the mindless cookie cutter garbage that has inundated the airwaves for far too long.
I can’t believe how our culture has degenerated. The Zombies should sue -I sure as hell would.
I agree that we are seeing more and more remakes of classic songs and creativity is not waht it use to be, but as an individual invloved in broadcasting I will say: At least we have this wonderful lagacy of timeless musical creation exposed to our newer generation by means of remakes and or remixes. Lets be honest, We feel proud to see that this clasics are popular again even after 50 years have passed since they were first broadcasted. Baby boomers, generation X, milleniun, we all sharethe same tunes now.
