Eminem “3 a.m.”

eminem-3amSecond Relapse single “3 a.m.” may not be as deeply disturbing as Eminem would probably like it to be (just like the celeb-focused buffoonery that defined previous single “We Made You”, we’re kind of over the murder-loving side of him as well), but that’s not really what makes this latest tour through the dark, nightmarish corners of his mind so compelling.

That honor would have to go the amazing staccato flow and jaw-dropping poly-syllabic rhyme patterns on display here: “Swallowing a Klonopin while I’m nodding in and out on the ottoman at the Ramada inn, holding onto the pill bottle then”. This is the type of stuff hip hop heads busts nut over, and he succeeds at doing this through THREE SOLID VERSES.

Try your best to hear past that annoyingly nasal accent he’s embraced for a bit too long and the cheap digs at Hannah Montana and Kim Kardashian’s butt and admire the man’s raw mic skills; You’ll once again realize why he deserves to be ranked among the greatest emcees of all time.

This is the flow that got me hooked on the Slim Shady EP. While the flow is nice, the beats remain stuck in 2004.
