O’Spada “Time”

ospadaPress releases often come in with obnoxious, over-the-top descriptions of the advertised act sounding like “as if (artist A) and (artist B) had a child, then gave it up for adoption, which led it to be raised by (artists C-through-F) before it was alien-abducted during it’s teenage years by (artist G) “, and they usually earn a quick, single-clicked trip to the e-trash bin since the accompanying material rarely ever sounds as interesting as stated.

Still, we couldn’t help but get all thrilled when we were met with an e-mail hyping unknown Stockholm, Sweden troupe O’Spada as “a bastard child between Prince, Jackson 5 and Justice”, leading us to hope beyond hope in the few seconds it took to download the featured track, that it would actually hold true to such an exciting definition.

Guess what? It did.

O’Spada’s “Time” gives us feel-good with a capital F, it’s fizzy dishing of jazzy female vocals (courtesy of singer Julia Spada) clothed in sunny, 80′s synth R&B triggering pleasant flashbacks of the summer days we used to spend jamming to tunes like Nu-Shooz’ “I Can’t Wait” before “adult” concerns like paying bills and dealing with the IRS sapped all the innocence and zest for everyday life out of our souls.

Our sole gripe: we have to wait until the band releases their debut this Fall (through Despotz Records) to be rewarded with more of O’Spada’s greatness.

Until that time reaches us, get familiar with “Time” via the DL below, perhaps get inspired to cook up a nice remix, and then catch a few live performance clips of the band’s equally likable future material through their YouTube page.
