Jamiroquai “White Knuckle Ride”/ “Blue Skies”

As much as others may try (cough…Maroon 5…cough), no one can do sleek, blue-eyed neo-disco soul/ funk like the boys in Jamiroquai, and five years after their last release (2005′s Dynamite), the British band have returned to remind us of that fact, promising to light up dance floors worldwide with the arrival of seventh album Rock Dust Light Star this November, which they have thankfully opted in previewing with not one, but two, brand new singles/ videos.

“White Knuckle Ride” offers everything one will want in a Jamiroquai record (a polished and ultra-sexy Studio 54 groove and Jay Kay sounding just as awesomely Stevie Wonder-obsessed as he did seventeen years ago), but we’re most fascinated by “Blue Skies”, a midtempo ballad catching Jay in the midst of some mid-life self-reflection (“Now I’m gonna work it out, I’m gonna work with me,” he promises to others, and himself) atop a beautifully arranged soundbed of tender guitar plucks, billowing strings and heavenly background vocals.

These are great videos! I have not heard from Jamiroquai in some time! Very talented and different from the same old stuff.
