Little Dragon “Nightlight”
Swedish electro-neo-soul outfit Little Dragon have seen their fanbase expand greatly over the past year thanks to their high-profile two-track guest gig on the Gorillaz’ Plastic Beach album and word-of-mouth hype over their live shows fueling Johnny-come-lately appreciation for their first two releases (2007′s Little Dragon and 2009′s Machine Dreams); now, amidst their biggest buzz yet as a band, curiosity is high for what’s to be delivered on their forthcoming third effort, Ritual Union.
Judging by the sound of early RU preview “Nightlight” though, it seems Little Dragon aren’t letting the increased attention freak them out too much.
Much in line with the endlessly beguiling, ’80′s futuro textures found throughout Machine Dreams, the quirky cool of “Nightlight” feels like something that should be put on when cruising down a Martian freeway in your hovercraft, with singer Yukimi Nagano’s jazzy chirps having a field day floating about a breezy, digi-disco thump frame peppered with all kinds of cartoonish pops, zings and burbles.
In our imagination, this is what Erykah Badu bops to when she’s cleaning her crib.
Look for Ritual Union‘s arrival this July.
