Electro-pop newcomers Smokey Robotic are one of those acts who strain to be “unique” by hiding behind non-human characters (bear aliens, or something, in their case) and mythological origin stories only to push out less-than-extraordinary anonymous club fare that one would hear backgrounding a “night out” scene on prime-time TV or the big screen to the faux-delight of non-line-having extras all giddily dancing to their own individual beat.

Typically, getting something like this in the inbox would lead to a quick dismissal to the Recycle Bin, but after a couple curious listens led to a couple more (then a few more), we reached the realization that Smokey Robotic’s formula (slick electronic funk-pop grooves, goofy talk-raps, and sung male vocals seemingly transported from some old 80′s R&B album…or a Jamiroquai cover band) delighted our guilty pleasure zones to no end, even with the alien bears (or whatever) tossed in.
