R. Kelly & Travis Porter “Make It Rain (Remix)”
R. Kelly has presented so many stylistic strengths over his near two decade long (!!) career (cheesy inspirational anthems, melodramatic hip hop soul soap operas, lush booty jams, parent-beloved Chicago steppers’ grooves) that it was only a matter of time before he would grow a bit bored with the clean-cut, yester-soul pastiche that solely dominated Love Letter and switch focus.
For this re-branding of Travis Porter‘s strip club staple “Make It Rain”, the Pied Piper’s love for Raunch & B wackiness makes a return, with Kellz expertly utilizing the track’s goofy, stop-start bounce to staccato chant and rap-sing the joys of sipping Ciroc, cranberry and pineapple juice mixtures as he stands on couches and showers pole dancers with his big bank roll like “rainstorms”.
Sure, it’s not as lyrically WTF as we would’ve liked (though we do like the “got motherfuckers bootleggin’ the shit I ain’t even wrote yet” line), but as an event that seemed destined to happen anyway it doesn’t disappoint too much, leaving us hoping that it’s only the beginning of another long-running R. Kelly Jumps On Everybody’s Record Remix-fest.
