Spree Wilson “No Use In Runnin’”
Ready to join the ranks of so many other platinum-coated ATL-iens with no use for those lame genre boundaries (a pack including the likes of B.o.B, Andre 3000 and Cee-Lo), Atlanta rapper/ singer/ songwriter/ producer Spree Wilson and his alt-urban-flavored brew of whatever different R&B, pop and hip hop elements tickles his fancy at the moment feels like he could be something special in due time. All throughout his new (and quite fab) mixtape The Never Ending Now, feelings boil to the surface of him being only a Bruno Mars-helmed hook or universally beloved “Hey Ya!”-lite away from becoming this ubiquitous mainstream sensation.
Not convinced by our words alone, simply tip an ear to Never cut “No Use In Running”, a tune that may earn some balks of being a little too B.o.B-inspired, but one that sufficiently satisfies its duty of giving the people something buoyantly feelgood to vacuum a rug to on a crisp and clear Saturday morning.
The fact that the man packs no less than four brain-sticking hooks (The guitar licks!! That stomp-tastic chorus!!) within the song’s 3 1/2 minute length is a good hint that he could very well be a household name in a year’s time.
Spree’s official Jive Records debut Plastic Dreams (featuring production from Organized Noize and DJ Toomp) is due later this year.
