Beastie Boys featuring Santigold “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win”

We’ve heard the trio of Mike D, MCA and Ad-Rock plant their round robin-styled rhyme-fests on some pretty varied soundbeds over the years, to the point that if the Boys decided to release an entire album in which they rapped over nothing but armpit fart noises A: no one would be all that surprised, and B: it would likely be deemed as the coolest thing ever.

So going in expecting the unexpected when it came to the beats underlining the Beastie’s latest release, Hot Sauce Committee Part 2, we still managed to come away pleasantly shocked to hear them attached to something as immediately “summer jam”-esque as the reggae dub groove behind the Santigold-featured album cut “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win”.

Boasting an enslaving light island-ska gallop, some mighty fine Santigold B-girl toasts, and the Boys offering their old-school-laced wordplay wizardry usual under a muffled gauze, on first listen “Don’t Play No Game…”‘s laidback chill already sounds like it’ll be blasting from cars into the streets all throughout the most sticky-hot days of the year, instantly awakening us to a definite future reality we can’t wait to live out.
