Neon Hitch “On My Level (Wiz Khalifa Cover)”

After spending the past few years bouncing around the industry (she was briefly signed to Mike Skinner’s now-defunct label The Beats, opened for the likes of 50 Cent and Neneh Cherry and co-wrote tracks for Ke$ha and 3OH!3), the now-Warner Bros. Records-backed bohemian electro-pop singer-songwriter Neon Hitch is finally ready for her own breakthrough, and there’s no smarter way to get the attention of the blogopshere in 2011 than by attempting to join the Taylor Gang with this, um…interesting remake of a Wiz Khalifa record.

Bypassing the more obvious “Black & Yellow” (thankfully!) to sink her eccentric teeth in the rapper’s Too $hort-blessed street-level hit “On My Level”, Hitch definitely succeeds in grabbing the senses, striking an intriguing hood-smart pose with her vocals’ snake-charming slink through Khalifa’s expletive-laced, blunt & alcohol-spiked rhyme book.

Peep the (teasingly brief) MP3/ video of the cover below, then proceed to get familiar with the singer’s new Ke$ha-meets-Shakira-flavored single “Bad Dog” cause we get the feeling you’ll be hearing it everywhere soon enough.
