Maroon 5 featuring Mac Miller & Christina Aguilera “Moves Like Jagger (Remix)”

“Moves Like Jagger”‘s title will forever ring a bit silly, but the chart-topping song/ The Voice tie-in deserves some credit.

The track not only pumped some new life into the careers of both Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera (we couldn’t even hum you the singles that came off of both act’s last albums), but “Jagger” ended up being one of the more infectious guilty pleasure pop events to emerge in the summer of 2011 thanks to that brain-burrowing whistle hook, producers Shellback and Benny Blanco’s nice disco-flavored twist of M5′s usual white boy funk and a snazzy (and kinda track-stealing) Aguilera guest vocal performance that hearkened back to the belting diva’s early more purer-pop teen days (y’know before the polarizing “Dirrty” phase and her lackluster attempt at jumping on the electro bandwagon).

Steadily rising new generation rap phenom Mac Miller is added onto the track for the remix (because no major label pop single can be dropped these days without a sort of deluxe edition re-release in an effort to make the record an even bigger “event” and, most importantly, keep those iTunes sales pumping [read: Rihanna & Britney, Britney, Nicki & Ke$ha, Katy & Missy]), and while it’s great and all that a more obvious guest rapper wasn’t employed and that Miller is getting some mainstream shine, the whole pasted-on emcee/ dub-step breakdown trick feels like it’s kind of ran it’s course.

Good, but we never thought we would be yearning for the days when Diddy was “inventing” the remix.

Drops October 4th digitally.
