Coco O (of Quadron) “Ex-Factor (Lauryn Hill Cover)”

One of many reasons why folks, including us, continue to remain patient in waiting for Lauryn Hill to work through her issues and give us the real Miseducation of Lauryn Hill follow-up we’ve been anticipating for what feels like three lifetimes now: the soul-piercing greatness of that album’s third cut and second single, “Ex-Factor”.

Aided by a brilliantly lain Wu-Tang-referencing sample, a fiery guitar solo, some amazing pen-work and THAT VOICE!!, Lauryn was at the peak of her powers with the way she poured her everything into this classic number, a strikingly raw unrequited love tale that could best be described to the kiddies of today as being equivalent to that emotionally weighty feeling they get when hearing a great Adele ballad TIMES A ZILLION.

Coco O., of Danish soul-pop outfit Quadron, is one of the very few vocalists of today (alongside Adele) we could ever imagine gifting us with a worthwhile cover of the tune, and as you can see in the performance below, she doesn’t at all disappoint, filling up every space of this sparsely constructed rendition with just the perfect supply of pain-soaked soul.

Hit play and proceed to have your breath taken away.
