The Bamboos featuring Megan Washington “The Wilhelm Scream (James Blake Cover)”
To honor the tenth anniversary of their first release as a band, Australian funk/ soul eight-piece The Bamboos hooked up with fellow Aussie singer-songwriter Megan Washington for this lovely remake of James Blake’s “The Wilhelm Scream”.
Recasting the skeletal electro-soul ballad into a retro-laced slow burn beautifully seasoned with horns, organ and strings and Washington’s entrancing vocal smokiness, their version feels tailor-made to soundtrack some somber scene in a ’70′s blaxploitation flick starring Pam Grier, or a quiet Sunday afternoon spent figuring out if you should or shouldn’t call that ex you still haven’t got over while sipping down a cup of tea.
Whatever the scenario it’s supporting though, the cut is pure “grown folk” R&B bliss. (via)
