Theophilus London “Last Night (LVRS Anthem)”
On the heels of a strangely straight-forward remake of obscure Motown holiday ditty “Purple Snowflakes”, forever-long “Next Big Thing” Theophilus London kicks off the ’12 by gifting his fans with another freebie delight in “Last Night (LVRS Anthem)”, a ri-DONK-ulously bad(-meaning-good) electro-hop flip on Scottish producer Rustie‘s 2011 Glass Swords jam “After Light”.
Fronted by a chopped-n-screwed request for all the ladies within earshot to “show (their) nasty side”, London basically guarantees that many lady asses will touch floors as he expertly rides atop the track’s busy blast of dub-by blurts, Timbaland-esque drum patterns, vocal snippet cray-cray and gleaming synths that seem to hover in mid-air with a performance that see-saws between rapid-fire spitting about his preference for Bushmill’s over Ciroc and harmonious Bone Thugs homage in which he sing-raps the “crunked-up” pleasures of a “good drink” and “purple” combo.
An early preview of newest project Lovers Holiday II: Rose Island, if club-rap-done-right “Last Night” doesn’t become the track that gets this well over-due for a breakthrough Brooklyn-ite some above-ground love, we just don’t know if we want to exist on this pathetic planet any longer.
