Cam’ron featuring Yummy Bingham “So Bad”
Yummy Bingham, and her distinctive soprano coo, seemed to be on the verge of really big things with her slicked out 2005 single “Come Get It”, a ready-made summer banger pairing her divine cartoon-y chirp with a brassy Rockwilder-produced R&B street-knock, but the cut failed to generate much of a pulse beyond being a momentary mixtape jam.
Fast-forward seven years later and Bingham’s bubblegum-soul has lost none of its sweet-to-the-ears appeal, easily stealing the show on Cam’ron‘s newest leakage “So Bad”, the rapper’s latest tune to expose his weird admiration for girly-pop-flavored sonics (see: “Me, My Moms and Jimmy”, “Oh Boy” [and Mariah's subsequent remix/ remake-thingie also featuring him], “Hey Ma”, “I Wanna Be Your Lady”, “Push It”, “Girls”, and that bizarre bootleg remix of Rihanna’s “We Found Love” from late last year).
Slated to appear on Cam’ron’s upcoming Killa Season 2, the radio-friendly number bobs atop candy-coated piano notes for a “relationship gone awry” lyric, with Cam, after being caught cheating, now bemoaning the enraged, heart-bruised person his lady has turned into (she’s “bitter on Twitter/ Following my followers” and “like an app in my iPhone/ An angry bird”).
As aforementioned though, it’s all about Bingham on this one, her contribution, a far more mature expression of regret over “how a good thing turned bad”, ringing with the bright pre-pubescent tones of Jackson 5-young MJ or early-New Editon-era Ralph Tresvant and coming across as the perfect compliment for future windows-down, warmer weather settings.
Really wouldn’t mind some sort of sequel to this in which Yummy and Cam switch lead/ guest artist roles…
