Jack White “Love Interruption”

As ubiquitous a presence as Jack White has had in the music scene the past decade or so, it does come as a surprise that not a single one of the rocker’s eight thousand projects within this time span has included a solo effort. Until now, that is.

Blunderbuss is the name of the album (it’s due April 23rd), and the first preview of it comes in the form of “Love Interruption”, a rough-hewed acoustic blues-rock number housing a vividly bitter take on love.

“I want love to roll me over slowly/ Stick a knife inside me and twist it all around/ I want love to, grab my fingers gently/ Slam them in the door way, put my face into the ground,” spits White, his striking poetic balancing of romance’s highs and lows painting a very realistic portrayal of post-break-up emotional rawness: “I won’t let love disrupt, corrupt or interrupt me…anymore”.

His words and performance (nicely aided in harmony by Nashville singer-songwriter Ruby Amanfu) cut so sharp, you can’t help but be left a tad bit embarrassed for the woman (or women) who brought him to this point, because it would truly suck to be them this week.

The single is available on iTunes now. Pre-order it on 7″ vinyl here.
