Theophilus London featuring Blood Orange “Take It Off (Dim The Lights) (Pharrell Cover)”

Leave it to the wonderfully random Theophilus London to remind us of Pharrell’s mostly forgotten about ’06 solo effort In My Mind with his newest release, a cover of that album’s goofy sex joint “Take It Off (Dim The Lights)” made over duet-style with a guest vocal from Blood Orange/ Dev Hynes.

For a record that was merely okay in it’s original form, “Take It Off” ranks miles more entertaining in the hands of London and Hynes, the duo sounding like a hilarious SNL-like spoof on the early 90′s randiest R&B boy bands as they trade off lines about peeling off panties and cupping soft buttocks with dedicated stone-face against the track’s echo-y, old-school-dated bedroom jam pulse.

A video is supposedly on the way, and if it doesn’t feature the guys looking like long-lost members of Color Me Badd, Bell Biv Devoe or Jodeci while trying to put the mack-down on ladies who look and dress like they could have been video chick extras in the classic “Rumpshaker” clip, we will be sorely disappointed.

From London’s forthcoming Rose Island tape.
