Teased in recent weeks by snippet-cut previews and live performance clips, the studio rendition of “Big Spender” dropped this past weekend (to the excitement of many) and its safe to say that it bangs, goes, or whatever the kids say about anything that’s hot on arrival these days to the power of aplenty.
Major props go to DJ Carnage who manages to gift Shirley Bassey’s overly-familiar 1967 take on “Big Spender” with a brand new spark, chopping n’ screwing the ‘striptease’ staple with a hard-hitting bouncy vivacity; but don’t count out Theo and Rocky, both making the most of the beat playground with a barrage of ear-grabbing boss-isms (“Fuck that shit I’m too throwed/ Pretty nigga my jewels gold/ Pinky ring and my tooth gold, your main bitch is my new ho”) while exposing an addicting mic chemistry we wouldn’t mind getting more doses of.
“Big Spender” (DL):
If that’s not enough new Pretty Flacko for you, the Harlem-ite also came through today with “Goldie”, the first single from his upcoming official solo debut LongLiveA$AP.
Lest anyone be a bit worried that the word “official” might mean a watered-down, safe-for-radio Rocky (the horror!!!), the track sees Mr. “Everything is Purple” thankfully sticking to his usual fan-beloved playbook, which basically consists of him dripping his sizzurpy-slur-decorated, slick A$AP swag (“I’m early to the party/ But my ‘rarri is the latest”) all over a murky, nightmarish knock soundtrack (this time supplied by Hit Boy).
