Azealia Banks “Barely Legal (The Strokes Cover)”

Thankfully the many Twitter beefs that Harlem hip hop phenomenon Azealia Banks seems to always be involved in has not completely distracted her from spinning out new tunes.

On the heels of her social media drama-sparking riff on Baauer’s chart-topping/ culture-dominating “Harlem Shake”, Banks turns her focus to another cover song for her latest leakage, this time planting her ‘witch-hop’ talons on The Strokes’ “Barely Legal”.

For those that recall her early career remake of Interpol’s “Slow Hands”, Azealia dipping a toe into rock waters isn’t all that surprising, but what is amazing is what she does to the Is This It cut, making its connection to the original near-unrecognizable with the way she effortlessly transforms “Legal” from a shaggy garage-rocker into a slick, club-pop delight highlighted by her buttery-smoove singing chops and Brooklyn outfit Lindbergh Palace‘s ever-shifting electro-hip-house theatrics.
