fun. “Anything Could Happen (Ellie Goulding Cover)”

Ellie Goulding’s “Anything Could Happen” may not have exactly set the charts and airwaves aflame upon its initial American release late last summer a la her endlessly radio spun “Lights”, but for us at least, like that smash hit, the Halcyon lead single has proven to be just as endlessly enjoyable, all these months (and numerous Soundcloud/ YouTube covers) later each personal re-spin of the cut still managing to produce another favorite moment within its many vocal and music-based hooks.

Apparently, the now 2X Grammy-adorned fun. feel the same, padding out an appearance made at BBC’s Live Lounge earlier this week, with a live, acoustic spin of the tune. This particular meshing of band and song ends up feeling like a perfect fit too, with Nate Ruess & Co. keeping true to the original’s winning melodies and structure while also injecting a bit of the dramatic pomp that makes fun….well fun., specifically their ability to turn anything into a rousing, cell-phones-in-the-air-waving arena-pop anthem.
