Pro Era (Dirty Sanchez, Capital STEEZ & Rokamouth) “Maxwell”

If the social media trending topic domination cluttering up your timeline over this past week’s giveaway series #PROERAweek–or the heavy on-line buzz generated by anything related to breakout member Joey Bada$$–didn’t provide you with enough of a clue, New York’s 90’s-gazing, twenty-plus artists collective Pro Era have basically cemented themselves as the new, up-and-coming hip hop team to beat within the World Wide Web world.

That hype should only continue on with the crew’s latest freebie offering “Maxwell”, a DJ Black Diamond-produced cut featuring members Dirty Sanchez, Rokamouth and Capital STEEZ all dropping strong, relationship-focused verses to a sped-up sample of Maxwell’s 2009 single “Bad Habits”.

It’s a smooth, summer jam-like track, keeping up with the crew’s throwback leanings though its hints of a Pharcyde or Method Man-in-R&B-thug-mode feel, but a bittersweet one as well: STEEZ, stealing the show here with a masterfully layered, rewind-worthy middle sixteen, tragically passed away last December.
