Apparently one must keep a constant eye (and both ears) on Montreal remixing/ production phenom Kaytranada, because with the way dude is on his grind, if you happen to turn away for just a second or two, you’re bound to miss out on a lot.
We last mentioned Kay around these parts last month to gush over his re-edit of Jill Scott’s “Golden”, but in the weeks since he has yet to take a pause for the cause, keeping his hustle paws strong with not one, but two stellar tweaks on a couple more of the best ’00’s R&B had to offer.
For Amerie’s wispy debut single “Why Don’t We Fall In Love”, Kay re-jiggers it for the house party dancefloor, laying underneath Amerie’s heavenly lead vocal and stacked harmonies a funky bass stomp for everyone’s two-step pleasures; meanwhile his “bootleg” spin on Robin Thicke’s “Wanna Love You Girl” makes over the wildly under-appreciated Neptunes-assist from a nimble blue-eyed soul bump to a seductively synthy snap&b midtempo that sounds like something folks on the Star Trek Enterprise would mate to.
Oh Kaytranada, may you continue to never wanna take a breather.
