Daley “Songs That Remind Me of You”

daley - songs that remind me of you

Looking to strike up some buzz for his forthcoming full-length debut Days and Nights, soulful UK singer-songwriter Daley seems to be taking a page out of Miguel’s successful run-up-to-Kaleidoscope Dreams playbook with the release of a fre-EP pre-album teaser.

The Stereotypes-produced “Songs That Remind Me of You” is the first taste and title track of this freebie set, the track fusing Daley’s neo-soul leanings with the moody, nocturnal R&B sounds that are all the rage now for a lyric that sees him dealing with a break-up (“I’m waiting for your call/ You left me hanging on/ It makes no sense at all to me…”) by drowning himself in the songs that fill his brain with memories of the former union.

Part ode to his own personal playlist (with names like Marvin Gaye, Aaliyah and Jill Scott receiving shout-out), “Songs”, fueled by gently massaging synth swirls and Daley’s understated vocal, simmers with a low-key, Maxwell-esque sensuality that will make it an ideal bump for sticky-hot summer nights, but while the tune supplies some good sonic soul food comfort, with talk of Daley entering the studio with names like Pharrell, Damon Albarn and The Roots, we’re definitely more excited to plant an ear or two on the songs to come from the Manchester-born talent.
